Friends of Williamston Parks will be hosting its annual Euchre tournament at the Red Cedar Jubilee to raise money for park projects. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place, and for most loaner hands. Grab your friends and join us for a fun night of Euchre! Euchre is a trick taking game with a trump, played by four players in teams of two. For this tournament, we’ll be playing by the following rules:

Dealer Rules:

  • Starting dealer is decided by the first turned up black jack.

  • Strick the dealer applies (dealer must call trump if every player passes).

  • If a misdeal occurs, the dealer has the opportunity to deal one more time, so long as the top card in the kitty has not been turned over by the dealer. If the top card has been turned by the dealer before the misdeal is detected, the deal if passed to the next player. If two misdeals in a row occur, the deal is passed to the next player regardless if the top card has been turned.

Table Shuffle Rules:

  • You may sit down with a partner of your choice to begin the tournament

  • The losing team will get up and move to the next table in ascending order; table one goes to table two, two goes to three, etc. Final table will go to table one.

  • Teams will not be partnered together during the next game.

  • All players draw a card to determine partners: High card with high card and low card with low card.

Game Play & Scoring:

  • There will be a total of 8 games, each game with 8 hands and/or be limited to 15 minutes. If you are still in play at the end of 15 minutes, finish that hand and record your score.

  • If Euchred, both players pay $0.25 into the Euchre Cup at your table. If you need quarters, a volunteer will have some available to purchase.

  • If a player is guilty of a renege, then the opposing team is awarded two points and the hand is over.

  • At the end of 8 hands or 15 minutes (whichever comes first) played, players will record their score on the tally sheet.

  • Score is not limited to 10 points during the 8 hands or 15 minutes. If your team happens to score more than 10 points during the 8 hands or 15 minutes, that is the score that will be recorded on the tally sheet.

  • In the event of a tie at the end of the game, one player from each team will draw a card. High card wins, Ace being the highest card.

  • A loner hand requires the initials of the other team’s players on the tally sheet. Only the person who went alone will be awarded the loaner (not the partner of the loner).

  • Points are awarded as follow:

    • 1 point for winning a hand

    • 2 points for a euchre

    • 2 points for a renege

    • 2 points for both partners taking all 5 tricks

    • 4 points for a loner

  • At the end of the tournament, each player should tally their total score, including the number of loners, and hand their sheet to the event volunteers to determine the winners

  • Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and the player with the most loners.

  • If there is a tie score for any placeholders, then the players who have tied will draw a single card. High cards wins, with Ace being the highest card.
